How might we use video to create professional learning experiences that inspire?

In Stage 1, you shared teaching isn’t just about skills and content knowledge. Professional learning experiences should also kindle our passion for this work.

Videos Inspired By Dr. Robert Brooks' Article: "The Impact of Teachers: A Story of Indelible Memories and Self-Esteem"

Based on the attached article by Dr. Robert Brooks, teachers would answer one or more of the following questions posed by Brooks in the article through videos: 1. Describe a teacher you really liked when you were a student. 2. Please describe one experience that you had with an educator, when you were a student, that reinforced your self-esteem."

Potential Impact

Brooks writes beautifully about how the impact of a caring adult, which is usually a teacher, has helped so many children overcome adversity. Giving teachers time to reflect and document the positive impact teachers have had in their life would allow them to identify those attributes that they want to be sure to incorporate into their professional practices.

Possible Implementation

Teachers could create videos and then reflect at different points in the year about how closely they are incorporating the desired attributes into their practice. Viewing others videos could also give teachers ideas about how they could make a positive impact.

Great title! I agree about our work as making a difference. I'm curious, you mentioned veteran educators as those that would contribute video on how they make a difference. How might you define veteran? I think you'd like to tap into the experts, but I didn't want to assume. I like the idea. Thanks.

I think the nature of teachers making a difference has a lot to do with us not giving up when our teaching runs into a challenging student or situation. Any teacher who has the mindset and professional skill to try different approaches and overcome challenges would be my definition of a veteran. Thank you so much for your comments and thought-provoking question!
